Sources of Solid Fuel Heating

Solid fuel heaters can take the place of a traditional gas or electric heating mechanism, or the two can actually work well in conjunction with one another as a link up system, linking a solid fuel appliance to a gas, oil or electric boiler.

A solid fuel central heating system will heat up a tank of water and will provide warmth to radiators. They are low maintenance – wood or coal stoves only need occasional stoking, and benefit from low running costs.

In a solid fuel boiler, a large quantity of water is stored somewhere within the house, in a hot water tank, which is heated when the stove or fire is lit. Again, they are usually powered by coal or wood. The large mass of water will then provide heat for a long period of time after the fire has been extinguished, and provides hot water for other areas of a property.
